The Gestalt school identified several principles of use to artists and architects, but the most important is that of balance – that is, the constantly shifting balance that balances all opposites within the constantly shifting matrix of reality. Interestingly the principles of form found in the natural world are not dissimilar to the Gestalt principles that also operate in the unselfconscious human building traditions I referred to at the beginning of this article. Vernacular building traditions have evolved slowly over long periods of time and thus possess some of the coherent organic order found also in Nature. As in animal architecture, vernacular architecture possesses an inherent beauty: the beauty of integrity and unity. Such beauty emerges from the totally balanced integration of a system, its function and use into the broader realms of Nature.

So have we stumbled onto the reason why so many modern human-made environments fail to come up to the quality of some older towns and cities? At root the problem seems to lie in the spiritual posture that we adopt with Nature. Many people would now accept that as humans we are completely co-terminal with Nature. However, in claiming ownership, as we do, of that part of Nature that we call -self’, we not only separate ourselves from Nature but also separate ourselves from our own environments. Yogis tell us that the transcendental world of the spirit – the world of unity and pure consciousness – supports the relative world at each point. They tell us that the transcendental realm is a world without qualities yet gives rise to and sustains all qualities. They tell us that it is to be found in the -gap’ between the different states of consciousness: waking, dreaming and sleep; in the silences in music; between syllables in spoken language and even between our thoughts. The great 19th-century Indian holy man Ramakrishna Paramahansa was once asked, -Where do I find God?- His reply was, -Look between two thoughts.- This gap between perfectly balanced opposites is where life and spirit enter the relative world. It is also the vital middle ground between a subject and an object that defines the -mean’ and gives the meaning.

In conclusion we can say that it is order that gives life to a work and it is order that gives a work its spiritual dimension. It is in the perfect orderliness of a great work that the two worlds of materiality and spirit conjoin. Order is the agent that serves as the conduit between these two realms. Dare we say that -orderliness’ is next to -Godliness’?

Bedroom Feng Shui Today

We spend most of our lives in the bedroom, so it is important to have a correct combination of wall paintings, feng shui symbols, furniture, colours and living nature such as plants, flowers, fish tank. Hence, Bedroom feng shui can give us the essential tools to create a place where you can relax, good night rest, no stress from work, improved family relationships and so on. Every room is different, so in order to fully appreciate the importance of harmonious arrangements, basically think of how miserable and unfriendly, untidy, clutter, dark bedroom looks like. Good floating chi can bring you luck, especially in wealth, health and romance but bad chi can makes your life miserable.

In order to prevent bad chi in our bedroom, there are some bedroom feng shui rules you must follow. Firstly, do not place anything such as furniture, plant behind the door because you needs chi coming to your room, not blocking chi. When the door opens, make sure always make it at 90 degree-angle at least. Anything below 90 degree-angle can prevent chi coming to your room, which is you don’t want that to happen. Some feng shui books also suggest that you have some living things to lay eyes just as you enter the bedroom. These living things can be plant, fish tank, flower, painting or anything else that can causes a positive response from people.

Decorating bedroom is a crucial thing part of bedroom feng shui. Use relaxing colours when painting the walls, avoid using reds or blacks. With your bed, you need to feel comfortable and must be in a command position. What do I mean in command position? Basically, just need to place the bed where you can see the door. Avoid placing your bed in a corner or any sharp corners facing you in the bedroom, feng shui called “poison arrows”. No mirrors in the bedroom especially for couple, feng shui believe having mirrors is just like having a third person in the room.

Keep your room clean at all time is another part of bedroom feng shui command. If you can, please avoid bring books, foods, water, and computer to your bedroom. If there are too many things in the room, then you are creating bad chi in your room. If you ever feel depressed, sick or headache in the morning, have a look around in your bedroom and see what you can do to improve good chi coming to your bedroom. Clutter can cause a negative influence on the corresponding area of your life. So by clearing clutter in your bedroom you can let go of all sorts of negative emotions.

Tips For First Time Property Investors

If you are like many people you may have heard that there is the potential to make a lot of money through property investment. It is possible to do this but if you are a first time property investor there are things that you need to know and to keep in mind so that you dont end up taking a loss your first time out. While there are no guarantees and it is possible for experienced investors to get stung from time to time the following tips can help you minimize your risk and find great properties to invest in.

Be Specific
You need to be specific about the kinds of properties you want to invest in. Do you want to purchase residential or commercial properties? It is important to be specific about the kind of properties you are interested in investing in as it can help you narrow your search and refine the kinds of research that you will be doing on each of the properties you are considering. It can also help you find the right kind of realtor to deal with.

Do your research
You want to make sure you are doing your research before you invest in any properties. The kinds of research you will do will vary depending on whether you are purchasing a residential or commercial property. You need to look at property values and how they have changed recently, which types of properties are the most popular and even what comparable property values are like if you plan to make an offer to purchase.

A good realtor will be able to help you with much of this research. They will have an idea of which properties are likely to appreciate most in value and give you information on zoning, comparables and other data that can help you make the right choice and potentially maximize your profits.

Make sure your finances are in order
Although this may seem obvious, it is a mistake that many people make when they are investing in properties for the first time. They may not realize the importance of having their finances in order before they begin looking. If you have purchased a residential property before but have never purchased a commercial property you may not realize the differences in interest rates and down payments that may exist.

By having your finances in line before you begin looking you will be able to refine your budget and will be in a much better position to make an offer on a property when you find one you like.

Newberry, South Carolinas Wells Japanese Garden

The midlands of South Carolina would seem to be an unusual place to find a Japanese Garden. The town of Newberry has just such a hidden gem in the Wells Japanese Garden. The garden was once privately owned by the Wells family, but was donated to the city in 1970 and is now a Newberry city park.
The garden was designed in 1930 by W. Fulmer Wells. The young Newberry resident had been studying architecture in California. Fulmer was influenced by the design of the Japanese Tea Garden that he had visited at San Franciscos Golden Gate Park. The building of the garden was carried out by his father, Henry B. Wells, Sr. The small, triangular shaped garden was originally part of a larger residential property containing the Wells family home.

The Wells Japanese Garden has an exotic Asian character. The garden features many of the design elements that would typically be found in a traditional Japanese Garden. The entrance to the garden is through a Torii Gate, a traditional Japanese style gate often found at temple entrances. Torii literally means where birds reside. Most wooden Torii are painted red, as is the one in the Wells garden. A small creek flows through the garden, and a stone Moon Bridge crosses the creek. The half circle of this style of arched bridge is meant to reflect in the water below, creating a full circle between the bridge and its reflection. The garden also has two small ponds. A walking path leads to another ornamental structure, a Japanese Tea House, or Japanese style gazebo. A bench there provides a place for quiet reflection. The posts used in the Tea House were originally part of the historic Newberry Opera House, before its renovation in 1930. The garden also has a Japanese stone temple lantern, another design element typically found in Japanese gardens.

The garden contains both native and exotic plants. Visitors will find water lilies, lotus, Japanese iris, crepe myrtles, cypress, and dogwood trees among the garden plants. The Newberry Council of Garden Clubs maintains the garden as one of their on-going restoration projects. The Wells Japanese Garden is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Wells Japanese Garden is located on Lindsay Street in downtown Newberry, behind the Newberry City Hall. It is open from 7am-7pm. There are no restroom facilities in the garden. Visitors to Newberry should take time for a quiet stroll through this charming little garden oasis.
